Custom Water System Project History

Delta Industrial Services is a leading provider of design/build water treatment systems in the state of Alaska.
Below is a partial list of systems in use at oil-drilling camps, gold mining operations and remote villages:

Public Water System: Galena Camp, North Slope, Alaska

Client: Cruz Construction Company

Scope: Cruz Construction operates mobile drilling camps in the oilfields of Alaska; their drinking water comes from frozen North Slope tundra lakes. The system had to be completely self-contained and transportable but still produce enough water to supply their drilling camp. Arctic-attuned construction was also a must. Applicable regulations included the USEPA’s Long-Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule, the Disinfectants and Disinfection By-Products Rule, and North Slope environmental requirements. A separate wastewater module was supplied through cooperation with Lifewater Engineering.

Treatment Technology: nanofiltration, ultraviolet disinfection, residual chlorination

Permanent Drinking Water System: Pogo Gold Mine, Alaska

Client: AMEC/Teck Resources

Scope: With a source-water classified as Groundwater under the Influence of Surface Water, the Pogo Gold Mine required a system to deal with both high mineral content and microbial activity. Their temporary system used so much chlorine that the water was almost undrinkable; incorporating ozonation to this design disinfected the water while precipitating the iron and mineral content in the filtration media. Chlorine was then needed only for residual disinfection, which improved the taste of the water significantly. There have been no taste, performance or water quality complaints since the system became operational in 2004.

Treatment Technology: multi-media bag filtration, ozonation, residual chlorination

Public Water System: Shirleyville, Alaska

Client: Aurora Gas

Scope: Shirleyville is a gas-field support camp in Cook Inlet, Alaska. The drinking water supply is surface water with high bacterial issues, organic carbon and iron. Delta Industrial built a system which was transported to them by barge, and effectively disinfects their water supply.

Treatment Technology: filtration, ozonation and residual chlorination

Portable Drinking Water System: El Cholome, Mexico

Client: Originally an in-house R&D prototype, this system was donated to a church mission in Mexico

Scope: Located remotely in the mountains of the Mexican desert, this small community needed a reliable and economical way of disinfecting and filtering surface water. This 12-volt unit runs on battery power and produces 1gpm. Previously used with success in drinking water tests in Alaska, the unit was donated and shipped to the mission in Mexico supply drinking water for 25 people.

Treatment Technology: ozonation, filtration

Drinking Water System: Survey Barge, Tanana/Yukon Rivers, Alaska

Client: Tanana Chiefs Conference

Scope: The Tanana Chiefs built a cadastral survey barge in the spring of 2000 to conduct studies along the Tanana and Yukon Rivers of Alaska. Because the research team would be en route for long periods of time, they needed an on-board drinking water system that was light, compact, operated on a minimum of power, and was capable of filtering river water and removing giardia. The system produced 5 gallons per minute.

Treatment Technology: multi-stage cartridge filtration

Drinking Water System: Salcha River, Alaska

Client: Salcha River Guest Camp

Scope: It was not feasible to drill a well at this remote lodge, located 50 miles up the Salcha River in Alaska, so the owner contacted us for an answer to treating water from an infiltration gallery next to the river. Space was extremely limited, and the system had run off of the lodge's generator and be equipped to store treated water for times when power was not available.

Treatment Technologies: multi-stage cartridge filtration, ozonation

Mine Water Reclamation System: Pogo Gold Mine, Alaska

Client: Teck Resources Inc.

Scope: Constructed and installed mine water reclamation unit during the exploration phase at Pogo Mine. The system was designed by others.

Temporary Drinking Water System: Pogo Gold Mine, Alaska

Client: Teck Resources Inc.

Scope: Constructed and installed the initial drinking water system for Pogo Mine's exploration phase. The system was designed by others.

Prototype 5 gpm Drinking Water System

Client: in-house R&D program

Scope: Following research on a 2gpm prototype unit, this module was built and tested throughout the state of Alaska. The unit is small enough to be transported by pick-up truck or bush plane and treats up to 300 gallons of water per hour. The unit was tested on ground and surface waters throughout the State of Alaska with favorable results. This unit was successful in removing arsenic.

Treatment Technology: filtration, ozonation
